Hi, This is my first time posting here so I hope this is the right forum. I had a Mirena coil fitted about three months ago as part of my treatment ... I had a Mirena coil fitted about three months ago as part of my treatment for endometriosis, I also had an ovary removed. My question is to do with the side effects.

I had my mirena coil removed 2 days ago. It had too many side effects for me. Weight gain, 5 kilos over 4 months, bloating, spotting constantly, breast tenderness and mood swings. I felt like I was on Depo again.

The contraceptive and therapeutic effects of Mirena are mainly based on local progestogenic effects in the uterine cavity. Levonorgestrel has an antiproliferative effect on the endometrium and it inhibits the endometrial synthesis of estrogen receptors, making the endometrium insensitive to the circulating estradiol.
