Generally speaking, the lower the dose, and the less systemic the dose, the less likely you are to gain weight -- in this case, Mirena would be your best choice hormonally, as far as I understand from the literature, and if you were to go non-hormonal then that'd work too.

In general, Mirena should be a good alternative to methods such as the shot and pill which are more likely (than Mirena) to cause weight gain.

I am far too forgetful to take the contraceptive pill (i was on that when my son was concieved!!) and as I have a tendancy to gain weight and go 'crazy' when I am menstruating the depo injection is out for me too.
