There are many different levels to RAID, but if you were using it for hard drive backup purposes, you would use level 1. Level one is called disk mirroring or duplexing, and this level will write data to both hard drives simultaneously, so when something happens to one there will always be the other one to fall back on.

What about two 7200 speed hard drives on raid 0? I read somewhere that ... We are after redundancy here, because it's a RAID array after all, and RAID5 is too slow for what we want to do, plus drives are cheap these days, 8 drives, no problem. So we're going to make a RAID array that consists of mirroring and striping.
