Modular arithmetic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In mathematics, modular arithmetic (sometimes called clock arithmetic ) is a system of arithmetic for integers, where numbers "wrap around" after they reach a certain value—the modulus . Modular...

Modular (often also Modulo) Arithmetic is an unusually versatile tool discovered by K.F.Gauss (1777-1855) in 1801. Two numbers a and b are said to be equal or congruent modulo N iff N|(a-b), i.e. iff their difference is exactly divisible by N. Usually (and on this page) a,b, are nonnegative and N a positive integer.

Integer Division and Remainders ... Integer division is concerned with the division of whole numbers (or integers) into a quotient and a remainder. ... For a more complicated example 1996 div 19 is 105, and 1996 mod 19 is 1 (because 1996 divided 19 is 105, remainder 1).

Mod, Modulus, Modular Arithmetic ... or, equivalently, that their difference is a multiple of 12. As I discuss in the following Dr. Math archived answer, "mod" is short for "modulo", which is Latin for "with respect to the modulus ...". Here we are calling 12 the modulus, that is, the number on which we are basing...

Binary math is based on modulo arithmetic. Modulo arithmetic uses only a finite set of numbers, wrapping the results of any calculations that fall outside the given set back into the set. ... For example, the common everyday clock uses modulo 12 arithmetic. Numbers in this system can only be 1 through 12. Therefore,

To accomplish the load balancing, a modulo arithmetic operation is used to divide a set of data elements from a data source substantially equally among the processors. Each of the processors performs the modulo arithmetic operation substantially independently.
