In the 1840's, the Ordinance Department was deciding to go back to the muzzle loading arms and came out with these new Musketoons. This Cavalry Musketoon has a .69 caliber, 26" tapered round barrel. It featured a swivel ramrod up until 1856 when a small chain was substituted for the swivels.
