For some reason my dog will not eat dry dog food, I've changed brands and types thinking she just didn't like them but she will not eat them until she's starving. She likes the canned moist food but that stuff isn't cheap so I'm not sure what to do to get her to eat the dry food.

I understand what you are saying but in fact by allowing him to eat the cat food he is in a sense, spoiled. It isn't that he doesn't like the dog food, as you said he ate it before he was lost. It's just that he likes the cat food alot better.

Eventually, you'll be able to put just a tiny bit of wet cat food on top and your dog should eat the whole portion. According to my vet, cat food, particularly wet cat food, is more 'flavored up' so that persnickety cats will eat it in the first place.
