I have given up trying to walk my dog on a leash. He is 10 months old, and used to do so wonderfully on a leash. I started leash training him as soon as I got him at 2 months, but now he pulls me (and he weighs 90 lbs) towards polls and other dogs to the point where the leash hurts my hands and I give up.

Go to the dollar store and get a 20 foot nylon leash... ... that works too..lol sounds mean but hey my new pup tried to do the same thing but he was connected to my other dog(the one who used to drag behind) and he just got pulled all over until he decided it was better to walk then get dragged through the mud..

the dog is attached to you by the leash and he will follow you when you walk, for no other reason than, he wants to be mnear his head and his head is going with you. your pace should be as it would be if you saw a $50 bill on the ground and you wanted to get to it before some one else did.

Most leash pulling begins as soon as the dog sees the leash and knows she's about to go for a walk. If the walk begins out of control, the precedent is set for the entire walk. Before expecting your dog to calmly walk beside you on leash, train her to be calm when you are putting her collar and leash on!
