The Hubble Space Telescope has been used to assemble a time-lapse color movie showing a full 16-hour rotation of Neptune. An animation of one rotation is shown in the adjacent image; here is a more extensive MPEG movie (492 kB) made from a series of Hubble observations (Ref).

Neptune's surface is a slushy nitrogenous layer, melding into a thick cloud of hydrogen in various forms, as well as helium and a small amount of methane. ... Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun, and is one of the outer gas giants. it has a rocky core, liquid mantel, and gaseous surface. Neptune's surface isn't solid,

World Book Article on Neptune ... Thick clouds cover Neptune's surface. Its interior begins with a region of heavily compressed gases. Deep in the interior, these gases blend into a liquid layer that surrounds the planet's central core of rock and ice.

Scientific Research Question: What Is The Surface Of Neptune Like? For long, no one knew too much about the surface of earth's now farthest planetary cousin, Neptune. That was how it remained, until the ... Neptune's surface is found to be similar in comparison to Uranus. There is a combination of ice and glaciers,

Much like Jupiter and Saturn, Neptune has an internal heat source, radiating more energy than it receives from the Sun, thus making surface winds to reach extremely high speeds. In fact, Neptune has the fastest clocked wind speed than any other gas planet in the solar system! ... Neptune's surface - courtesy Dave Seal...

An interesting feature on Neptune is the existence of high altitude clouds on the surface. The clouds are long and bright, much like the cirrus clouds on Earth and cast shadows on lower cloud decks. The clouds are usually 48 to 160 kilometers wide (30 to 100 miles wide) and extend for thousands of miles.

Neptune's surface is almost identical to Uranus'; a combination of ice and glaciers, rocks and craters make up Neptune's surface with about 15% hydrogen and little helium. Neptune also has great geysers of liquid nitrogen.
