NOR gate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The NOR gate is a digital logic gate that implements logical NOR - it behaves according to the truth table to the right. A HIGH output (1) results if both the inputs to the gate are LOW (0). If one ...

NOR logic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Like NAND gates, NOR gates are so-called "universal gates" that can be combined to form any other kind of logic gate. For example, the first embedded system, Apollo Guidance Computer, was built exclus...

The NOR gate and the NAND gate can be said to be universal gates since combinations of them can be used to accomplish any of the basic operations and can thus produce an inverter, an OR gate or an AND gate.

You can investigate the behaviour of a single NOR gate using this circuit: ... NOR gate test circuit ... If you have designed a system which contains a NOR gate integrated circuit, it can be convenient and cost-effective to implement other logic functions using spare NOR gates which would otherwise be unused.

The NOR gate is an OR gate with the output inverted. Where the OR gate allows the output to be true (logic 1) if any one or more of its inputs are true, the NOR gate inverts this and forces the output to logic 0 when any input is true.

TTL integrated circuits provide multiple inputs to NAND gates by designing transistors with multiple emitters on the chip. Unfortunately, we can't very well simulate that on a breadboard socket. What we can do, however, is use the same technique that we tried in both RTL and DTL, to form a NOR gate.
