An EF of 55 to 75 percent is considered normal. A higher than normal ejection fraction could indicate the presence of certain heart conditions, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. A low ejection fraction could be a sign that the heart is weakened.

Tags: Heart, ejection fraction, years ... I am a bit confused as to what most cardiologist consider a normal ejection fraction, I have seen conflicting numbers though the difference being very small. I have seen 50-70% as normal , then 55-75% as normal.

Because the left ventricle is the heart's main pumping chamber, ejection fraction is usually measured only in the left ventricle (LV). A normal LV ejection fraction is 55 to 70 percent. The ejection fraction may decrease if your heart has been damaged by a heart attack or other problems with the heart valves or muscle.

Also, in some studies, higher rates of heart failure with normal ejection fraction reported in women were based only on the diagnosis of HF with normal systolic function, as measures of diastolic function were not performed.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown low hemoglobin (Hb) to have an adverse effect on survival in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and reduced left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF); but its effect on survival in patients with CHF and normal EF is not known. ...
