Some versions of windows come with an NSLOOKUP tool that you can use via the command prompt. To use this tool, the first thing you should do is open a command prompt. Just go to Start, select Run, type "command", and press OK.

When I type nslookup from a workstation on the domain to lets say PDC netbios name I get a response saying cant find server name for address 172.0.1.2 non-existent domain. Notice how the BDC ip came back not the PDC. But then I do get the full PDC address and IPs weird ha? ... Windows Networking...
