Nucleophile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In chemistry, a nucleophile (literally nucleus lover as in nucleus and -phile) is a reagent that forms a chemical bond to its reaction partner (the electrophile) by donating both bonding electrons...

With data like this, it is tempting to link nucleophilicity directly to Bronsted basicity. This is not correct. Basicity is defined by the equilibrium constant of its reaction with an acid. Nucleophilicity is defined by the rate constant of its substitution reaction.

As the title says, What is the basic difference between nucleophilicity and basicity? When does a strong base behave as a weak nucleophile? ... What defines nucleophilicity and basicity? Nucleophilicity means how well (or "willing") a compound can attack an electrophile, which means sterics is involved. Basicity is (and...

nucleophilicity of a Lewis base is measured by relative rate constants of different nucleophilic reagents towards a common substrate, most commonly involving formation of a bond to carbon:

Nucleophilicity versus Basicit ... Nucleophilicity and basicity are very similar properties in that species that are nucleophiles are usually also bases (e.g. HO- , RO-). ... This is not too surprising since in the LEWIS sense, they are functioning as ELECTRON PAIR donors (i.e. both are LEWIS BASES), compare the two pairs...

Nucleophilicity and Basicit ... Nucleophilicity and basicity are similar properties in that species that are nucleophiles are usually also bases. This should not be too surprising since according to the LEWIS definition, they are functioning as ELECTRON PAIR donors (i.e. both are LEWIS BASES).

Question: I would like to ask about the relative nucleophilicity of the nitrogen atoms in the 7 position of guanine and adenine. In biology class, I was told that N7 of guanine is more nucleophilic (by far) than N7 of adenine.
