I'm trying to download modules, but they're all in .tar extensions, and I can't open them -- even with WinZip! ... The files are not .tar, but .tar.gz. Try saving them first rather than opening them directly. This is a known issue with WinZip installed.

Im having trouble opening the .tar file that has all the other files inside it. Please help. ... How do I extract the tar files? ... WinZip should be able to open .tar.gz files just fine, according to all reports. Make sure you have the most recent version (of WinZip) if it's giving you trouble.

Subject: too may open files - tar.exe ... I copied all.tar.gz to my win95 machine. uncompressed it and tar'ed it with some (non LFN) tar. Then I took the 'real' tar.exe and cygnwin.dll into my path and re-untared (after removing the junk tree). After untaring all files tar.exe tells me that there are too many open files.
