The script was originally to have been shown as a programme called 'Trial Gallop' earlier that year, but was delayed following the death of King George VI. This is the only television programme to feature all 4 original Goons.

After the Goons, as well as acting in occasional movies and TV shows, Michael Bentine wrote several books, both fiction and non-fiction. In 1971, he was awarded the Peruvian Order of Merit for work during an earthquake there.

The BBC eventually overcame the problem of transferring The Goon Show to the screen by creating a puppet cast, using the voices of the original Goons. Producer Tony Young uses a blend of string and rod puppets.

Naturally, I was intrigued when I received a mailer from the Wilma Theater about the play by British playwright Roy Smiles, Ying Tong: A Walk with the Goons, based on the hugely ... The name is taken from "The Ying Tong Song," a sort of anthem of the show, which you can hear performed by the original Goons here.
