Just as water moves from the sky to the earth and back in the hydrologic cycle, oxygen is also cycled through the environment. Plants mark the beginning of the oxygen cycle. Plants are able to use the energy of sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates and oxygen in a process called photosynthesis.

Oxygen cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The oxygen cycle is the biogeochemical cycle that describes the movement of oxygen within and between its three main reservoirs: the atmosphere (air), the biosphere (living things), and the lithosph...

Oxygen (O) atoms cycle through the ecosystem and the biosphere the way other elements do (especially carbon). The Earth has a fixed supply of the element even though it can be found everywhere, including the atmosphere, the oceans, rocks, and all living organisms.

Ozone-oxygen cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The ozone-oxygen cycle is the process by which ozone is continually regenerated in Earth's stratosphere, all the while converting ultraviolet radiation into heat energy. In 1930 Sydney Chapman resol...

Oxygen, like carbon and hydrogen, is a basic element of life. In addition, in the form of O3, ozone, it provides protection of life by filtering out the sun's UV rays as ... Figure O1. The Oxygen Cycle ... The result of not meeting the oxygen demand is described in the section on the water cycle (needs anchor to exact spot).

Oxygen cycles through Earth’s environment in several forms. It can be dissolved in the air or in water. Plants and animals breathe oxygen and return it to the air and water as carbon dioxide. Through photosynthesis, plans convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates, and oxygen is released.

The oxygen cycle is dominated by the process of photosynthesis. The graphic of the oxygen cycle shown below is presented in a different format than the carbon cycle discussed on the previous page. This graphic depicts some of the reservoirs of oxygen and the processes that generate flux between reservoirs.
