I was recently working on a client PC and had to restart it due to a new application install. ... page fault in non paged area. However i cannot boot in safe mode or previous last known, keeps reverting back to F8 .Windows goes through the motions but stops.

I restarted and got the offending PAGE_FAULT bluey. I tried the chkdsk fix and it didn't. This seems to be slippery problem. ... So "I'll have me some of that." thinks I. Buys XP Pro (SP-1) and suffers all these PAGE_FAULT errors. They occur randomly but most interestingly on Shutdowns! They never mention any drivers either.

Page Layout ... It sounds more like you have a corrupt page file (or swap file as it was called under 98se. Ideally your best bet is to delete the old page file and reboot. In 98 this was as easy as booting to command line and deleting the file c:\win386.swp;

Just this last time I got the BSOD with the Stop 0x50 PAGE_FAULT... error, which Technet says is either a driver or memory problem. Now the memory is new, in fact, I have three memory sticks to play with (the one that I am going to return RMA that did not have the bit errors).
