Parshall flume. Calculation software, equations, formulas ... Therefore, flowrate can be determined by measuring the upstream depth, which is a highly reliable measurement. Like all of LMNO Engineering's software, our Parshall flume calculation was written in double precision.

For the other three flumes, head is measured upstream from the throat a distance of 3 to 4 times the maximum expected head. This location is somewhat arbitrary because the head does not vary too much with position, so the exact location of the head measurement is not as important as for a Parshall flume.

Parshall flume sizes are designated by the throat width, W, and dimensions are available for flumes from the 1-in size for free flow of 0.03 ft3/s at 0.2 ft of measuring head up to the 50-ft size with 3,000 ft3/s at a head of 5.7 ft. The free-flow discharge range and dimensions for Parshall flumes are given on figure 8...

Flow Meters: We must measure the flow of a waste water stream through a Parshall flume. An accurate rate is important to ensure environmental compliance. The flume is the last device in line right before the pumping station. ... Two conditions of flow can occur through a Parshall flume: free flow and submerged flow.

Parshall flumes are a particular form of venturi flume developed by the late Dr. Ralph Parshall . They are intended to be installed in open channels in order to determine the flow of water The narrow throat produces a differential head which under the proper conditions is proportional to flow rate. ...
