I am looking for a safe formula for applying a verdigris patina to the solder lines and zinc framing on an assembled stained glass panel. I have seen many formulas calling for the use of ammonia solutions, which I cannot use for health reasons.

The patina is supposed to develop in a day or two. The handbook says to protect the coating by lacquering or wax polishing. This chapter also covers antique finishes of copper alloys, and is preceded by a chapter on lacquering.

Try not to "puddle" the Light Green formula as it may pop off later. These patinas will become very strong and part of the metal surface with time. If the material is going outdoors, we suggest applying a clear protective sealer to help while the patina sets.
