The percentage grade is the slope, written as a percent. To calculate the slope you divide the rise by the run. In your example the rise is 80 ft over a run of 3280 ft so the slope is 80/3280 = 0.024. Written as aa percent this is 2.4 %.

How does one measure the average percentage grade of a trail run? And how do you calculate the average angle of inclination? I have not done this before and my math is rusty. For an example, let's say you cover 5 miles running (26,400 feet), and steadily climb 2,000 feet during those miles.

Maybe I don't understand. I went to the site you pointed out and put in ; 528.0' in one mile (5280') and got a "Grade Percent Change" of 10%. Isn't that the same as 1' in 10' or 10' in 100'? Paul;
