Piebald deer will be mostly white with some brown spots, and their eyes will resemble those of an ordinary deer, not pink like true albino whitetail. Piebald deer are killed every year but are very rare. A true trophy in many hunters eyes, including mine.

There are more than 20 million whitetail deer in the wild in North America. They are considered by many to be the most beautiful and intelligent of the deer species. Recently a number of jurisdictions permitted Whitetails come in different colours including brown, white (see fawn on right) and piebald (spotted).

A genetic variation (defect) produces the piebald condition in white-tailed deer, not parasites or diseases. Piebald deer are colored white and brown similar to a pinto pony. Sometimes they appear almost entirely white.
