It is so hard to help your dog without giving them to many meds. Like I said in another post we can take a pill and our brain says "ok the pill will start working soon". A dog doesn't know this so my Vet says so it does take longer to kick in since they do not have any idea that you should start calming down soon.

My friend accidently gave her dog 1/4 of her Zanax pill (.05 mg). The dog slept all day. ... IMO, I would have your friend ask her Vet for something to give her dog before a Vet visit to calm the dog down. I just wouldn't risk giving the dog something they shouldn't have - especially in such an old dog in poor health.
