First collect green acorns in early fall. Ones that are free of worms holes and fungus. Put them in a bucket of water for a couple minutes. The ones that float are discarded. Take out the remaining acorns and place them in a large ziplock bag with damp sawdust. ... Planting Oak...

Today we planted 133 acorns, hoping for a few Oak trees to plant in the new area of land we are buying from Farmer Joe. They should grow to replace the protection of the old trees along the West bank of the moat, which are starting to look a little old and will need some work on them soon.

Somehow planting oaks/acorns was enshrouded in mystery for me but here's one way of doing it…. 1) Collect newly fallen acorns … don't wait too long or they'll go bad. 2) Get a stick. 3) Find a patch of ground where they can grow in peace.

Group selection and clearcutting are recommended when there are plenty of oak seedlings in the understory, or when there is a good acorn crop, or when oaks will be re-planted.
