These are the instructions that I give to neighbors and others ... There are some 1200 different cultivars of hydrangeas so I'm not sure of the exact cultivar. It does belong it the class Hydrangea macrophylla, in the "Mop Head" or "Hortense" ... After planting add enough mixed soil to form a mound 2-3 inches above ground level.

Oakleaf hydrangeas are susceptible to root rots. The most common is Armillaria root rot. Infested plants will appear wilted, but will not recover when watered and will eventually die. Planting hydrangeas on poorly drained soils will increase incidence of root rots and should be avoided.
