Ice depth and bedrock angle influence the rate of glacial flow. Glaciers contain two zones of ice flow. The zone of plastic flow, ice closest to the bedrock, experiences extreme pressure from the weight of the ice above and conforms to the anomalies in the bedrock.

Valley Glaciers - rates vary from centimeters per day to tens of meters per day. The steeper the slope, the faster the rate of movement. Larger ice masses move faster than smaller ice masses. In a valley glacier, ice moves fastest at the upper center part of zone of plastic flow.

Glacier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A glacier is a perennial mass of ice which moves over land. A glacier forms in locations where the mass accumulation of snow and ice exceeds ablation over many years. The word glacier comes from F...

Ice sheet dynamics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ice sheet dynamics describe the motion within large bodies of ice, such those currently on Greenland and Antarctica. Ice motion is dominated by the movement of glaciers, whose gravity-driven activity...

convergence Where two ice streams or glaciers flow together, convergence occurs. ... A crevasse which causes an ice block to displace has caused calving. Crevasses cannot exceed 50 meters (165 feet) deep because they are closed by plastic flow below that depth.
