Handpicking is one way to get these bugs out of your garden. Pyrethrum sprays will kill them, as will rotenone--but remember these products will also kill beneficials. Take advantage of the beetle's healthy appetite and sprinkle your potato plants with a bit of water followed by wheat bran meal or cornmeal.

If you have only a small plot of potatoes, the insects can be picked off the plants. I can remember picking potato bugs in my younger years. Every day we would get sent out into the potato patch with a fruit jar to pick the insects off the plants.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of a multitude of potato bugs, non-chemically. They are the bugs that when you touch them, they roll into a little ball. I used to play with them when I was a kid, lots of fun.

Living with Potato Bugs ... For the most part, I ignore the bugs in my garden and they ignore me. This may be due, at least in part, to the hay mulch in my garden which is host to a lot of spiders.
