As you get farther along in your prego, your placenta ages. It's not meant ... (ie did they check the blood flow via US) are they 100 percent that it IS prematurely aging? to what degree is it aging? what can you do to slow down the progression? you may want to do another glucose test, as high blood sugar can cause this.

My son having been somewhat deprived of oxygen and nutrients in the womb due to a prematurely aged placenta seemed to fit the profile of a baby with potential arousal problems.

Now they are saying something about a premature aging placenta. I've asked several RN's and they say there is no such thing!!! If there is could you PLEASE tell me what it is and why ... Placentas can age prematurely but that is usually due to some reason, smoking,viral infection, poor blood supply to the placenta, etc.

My doctor had me deliver my baby and I had to have a D&C to get the placenta out. I requested an autopsy since there weren't any visible signs as to why my baby had died. The pathology report showed that my placenta had aged prematurely and degenereated, which ultimately starved my baby of oxygen and nutrition.

If the placenta detaches from the wall of the uterus prematurely and before the baby is born, it is called an abruption (right). This is a serious problem because the oxygen source to the baby can be disturbed and the mother will be bleeding from the separated area.
