How far back can I cut an azalea bush without killing it? I have two beauties that have gotten way too big. One is taller than me, ... I have a group of three azaleas, 30 years old. The cultivar is 'Mme. Butterfly', lavender, vigorous, evergreen, gorgeous. They too got way too tall and we prune them very hard every year.
