I'm amazed at this description of how to become a vicar and the lengthy process. Given the state of many of our churches today, isn't there the slightest suspicion that perhaps the process is not as effective as it needs to be?

I am qualified in engineering but have no theological qualifications. I have a reasonable knowledge of scripture and love God. Am I too old, where would I start looking, I am not a catholic so the priesthood is a "no no" for me. ... I believe that to become an 'effective' pastor, you need a calling from God to become one.
