The spice of a story, the element that makes it more than simple heroes and villains, lies within the character of the Antihero. The Antihero is someone with some of the qualities of a villain, up to and including brutality, cynicism, and ruthlessness, but with the soul or motivations of a more conventional Hero.

They’re not a requirement for a villain like us, but darkness knows they’re useful. In fact, many of our kind depend on having a decent stable of minions to take care of the dirty work. But like any other sort of raw material, they come in a wide variety of qualities, some more suited to the task at hand than others.

Don’t make your villain an incarnation of pure evil. Always remember that the villain is the flip side of the hero. If you want to create a believable villain, give him or her heroic qualities.

Granted, you can't put all these qualities into one villain or they'd all kinda cancel eachother out. These are just things i've seen in various villains and have found to be some of their best aspects.
