THe only way (well the correct way) to lose weight is to exercise, and eat properly, Captain. Q wrote a good post. It is not good to lose a lot of weight too soon, starve yourself etc as all the weight ... The weight probably stayed off then. You've got to get the body's metabolism going again if you've got a lot to loose.
