There are two possible causes of elevated SGPT which I believe could be related in my case. One is obesity, which can cause a fatty liver. The other one is chronic medication use.

My SGPT value was 100 in Jan,01 . I get my test done again few days back and it came down to 60 now. I have never taken alchol in my life and doesn't smoke either . My diet is also stable . ... It is mildly elevated. It seems to be coming back to normal. Please discuss reasons for the elevations with your doctor.

For example, viral hepatitis or alcohol can cause elevated SGPT. We know that patients can have elevated liver tests as a result of fatty liver, a condition that does not necessarily mean generalized obesity. Usually fatty liver is not a cause for significant liver problems.

A high SGPT can be a sign of serious medical conditions, but it can also be caused by drugs (even common medications like aspirin and Tylenol). Sometimes the cause of the elevation just isn't known. I have had an elevated SGPT (over 100) for most of my life.
