In this experiment, we'll demonstrate the principles of density, mass, and weight by floating an egg in saltwater ... This is because rather than just floating around and taking up space, the salt dissolves into ions which are attracted to ... Notice that the egg will float in the saltwater but sinks in the ordinary tap water.

The Floating Egg; It's so simple and amazing. A raw egg will float in very salty water but will sink in plain tap water. Why? Salt water is more dense than regular water. You'll need to make a very saturated salt solution by dissolving roughly 4 tablespoons of salt in about 2 cups of water.

Floating Facts... Most people float in their birthday suit; others choose a swimsuit. To float, you step into one very large, light-blue, egg-shaped vessel, 4 1/2 feet high, 5 1/2 feet wide and 9 feet long, containing 200 gallons of water, 15” deep with 1,200 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved in it.
