Robert Fludd was born at Milgate House, in the parish of Bearsted and county of Kent, in the year 1574. His father was Sir Thomas Fludd who served Queen Elizabeth for many years and received his Knighthood for his services as War Treasurer in the Netherlands.

S. Forsius of the first hand-drawn colour-circle, the first printed colour-circle appeared in a medical work by the Englishman Robert Fludd (1574-1637). His colour-wheel has a total of seven areas around its circumference, and thus points to its ancestral link with Aristotle's line.

Robert Fludd here depicts the correspondence between the Human (the Ape of Nature) and the Universe as the human is held by a Great Chain of Being from the hand of God (inside cloud). Higher levels of being descended from God's Heaven through the sphere of stars and planetary orbs to the sphere of the four elements.
