Dysfunctional Family Roles, Roles, Children, alcoholics, ACOA, ... The healthier the family, the less these roles are written in cement. The more dysfunctional, the more difficult it is to get out of these roles. One needs to see ones own behavior, thoughts and feelings as part of the role and then step out of the role.

In contrast to functional or healthy families that foster positive development where trust, love and honest, open relationships thrive, dysfunctional families may produce insecurities and stop ‘normal’ development.

It is often the children from dysfunctional families who are chosen by the bully for the same reasons these roles are developed. The bully somehow seems to know that the child will have no one to tell about the bullying.

WHAT GOES WRONG IN DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES? ... Transitions into adult roles are quite difficult, as these adults frequently have difficulties making decisions independent from their parents. When they act independently these adults feel very guilty, as if growing up were a serious act of disloyalty.
