Because of the bus speed similarities, many people have claimed that USB 2.0 actually is competing with IEEE-1394a. While the volume of USB 2.0 peripherals clearly will surpass that of IEEE-1394a peripherals in PC-centric applications, these standards are different enough that each will retain their own niche.
