I am working on a vest with a mccall pattern that has a welt pocket and It never would have worked. My family does alot of reinactments and costume partys so I do alot of sewing and these pictures you have make a world of difference!

A single welt pocket is similar to the bound pocket (as described in nikishells howto), but only has a single "flap". It's a great way to add a contrasting fabric to your garment, or you can use matching fabric. I already had my camera out while making my Sidonie skirt.

For a single welt pocket, you will need a welt piece, a facing piece and two pocket pieces. The welt strip should be three times as wide and 1 1/4" (3 cm) longer than pocket opening. The facing piece should be twice as wide as the pocket opening and 1 1/4" (3 cm) longer.

Rustybobn Sews an Easy Welt Pocket ... After you've ironed on the interfacing and drawn the welt box, place the pocket onto the garment in the desired position, right sides together. To decide where to put your pocket, you can drape the vest (or whatever) over your shoulders and decide where your hands want a pocket.
