This is a little beyond my level of expertise but I believe the term "ecdysis" refers to shedding or casting of a cuticular layer in invertebrates and would not apply to snakes.

Soon after I purchased my snake it began to molt. I know that you are not supposed to handle or feed the snakes when they are molting so I didn't. Well my snake has been "molting" now for about 2 weeks and only about 1/3 of it has come off.
