Although sodium hypochlorite solution is alkaline it does not tend to cause corrosive damage except in large quantities or concentrated solutions. Sodium hypochlorite may release small amounts of chlorine and hypochlorous acid when acidified, but usually in concentrations too small to cause any significant damage.
