Sonata-Allegro Form ... Sonata-allegro form is certainly the most widely used design from the Classic Period on, but there are many variants on this basic design, and the greater the craft of the composer, the more variants would be likely to occur.

Sonata-allegro form has three main sections – the Exposition, the Development and the Recapitulation. Even though the form composed of three sections, it is considered a two-part form because it is based on two major modulations in tonality.

After the classical period helped to define the sections of the sonata-allegro form, composers began to use the general idea of the form and get away from the strictures. The first composer to really reshape sonata-allegro form was Beethoven at the beginning of the Romantic period in the early 19th century.
