Note that this is worse than either merge sort or heap sort, and requires random number generator to avoid being really bad. But it's pretty commonly used, and can be tuned in various ways to work better. (For instance, let x be the median of three randomly chosen values rather than just one value)

Within the TEClass thread functions we have the two main components of the sorting algorithm sort() and merge() which accomplish the bitonic merge and bitonic sort. Sort is the toplevel function. Its main job is to set up a sequence of bitonic merges until the entire list is merged into one sorted list.
