[Archive] Speed shifting ? 2004 ... I've always speed shifted by keeping the pedal to the metal and using the clutch to speed shift. But somebody was telling me that you don't even have to use the clutch when speed shifting. I'm not even comfortable giving this a try.

First of all, no matter how much power your car is making, you won't, and I stress WON'T, pull a good ET unless ... The difference from "Speed Shifting", what this style of driving has become labeled as, and regular driving can mean as much as half a second and up to 5 MPH in you're trap in mildly turbocharged vehicles.

The synchromesh are usually adequate intermediate shaft control when down shifting one or two gears. Aggressive downshifts (like a 5 - 2 shift from high speed) can benefit by using double-clutch shifting to assist the synchro's.

Should I hammer myself to improve my clutch-assisted shifting (I always clutch on down-shifts)? Pidjones, speed shifting is usually done without the clutch, so as long as you PERFECTLY match the engine RPM to the road speed the trans gear dogs engage without much damage..
