"Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light." ; ... That's not to say that nothing ever travels faster than light. As light travels through different materials, it scatters off of the molecules in the material and is slowed down. For some materials such as water, light will slow down more than electrons will.

The speed of light depends on the medium through which the light travels. In empty space, the speed is 186,000 (1.86 X 105) miles per second. It is almost the same in air. In water, it slows down to approximately 140,000 (1.4 X 105) miles per second.

Speed of light in air is about c/1.003. Speed of light in water is about c/1.33. ; You're using an inferior light:-) For th light I'm using, the speed is marginally higher in water than in vacuum. Mati Meron | "When you argue with a fool, | chances are he is doing just the same";
