on 1/4/2006 My dishwasher drained very slowly, usually leaving standing water after the cycle was done. There is some kind of valve that is attached to the drain hoses. The valve had a silver cover and was on the top rear of the sink.

The air gap is there to prevent any siphoning of standing water from the sink. When your dishwasher drains, the air gap diaphragm will form a seal and allow the water to drain properly. If the diaphragm in the air gap is faulty, it's possible that water can leak onto the cabinet and into the sink area.

Check that the water inlet valve isn't seeping fresh water into the dishwasher when off. ... For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced.

Q - The dishwasher is empty when the cycle is over, but the next morning there is water inside the dishwasher, what could be wrong ?? ... My daughter's dishwasher failed to empty last week - when I removed the filter it was completely bunged up with grease and gunge. After thorough cleaning with near boiling water the machine then emptied perfectly.

Standing water could be caused by a blocked outflow pipe, blocked/broken drainage pump. Disconnect the outflow pipe from where it joins to your waste pipe and see if it is blocked ... But they say: "When the dishwasher has completed its cycle, there will be a small amount of water left in the sump area under the filters.
