My compost pile lives in Southern California. Several years ago I decided to try my hand at producing a few vegetables and plant materials for the family out of our back yard. I figure adding my own compost back into the garden can't hurt. This is how I got started. Perhaps these tips will help someone else starting out.

Anyway, I am currently saving kitchen scraps to begin a compost pile, and just really feel like I don't know what I'm doing. I did a little reading on the subject, but still have unanswered questions. Should I wait until I have collected a lot of scraps, or can I start building a pile now?
