I started back doing my usual outside routine of cleaning horse stables, pressure washing and painting and fear my sternum may be affected in some way. Whenever I move my arms a certain way, I get a quick shooting electrical pain in my sternum and have to stop whatever I'm doing? ... Find a Doctor in your area;

Your doctor will usually diagnose costochondritis by pressing on the area where the ribs meet the chest bone (sternum). If this area is tender and sore, costochondritis is the most likely cause of your sternum pain or chest pain.

I too have had some pain in my sternum over the past 2 wks. I have never been injured in this area before. As a single mom I ... I to been having dull pain in my sternum area, more toward the right side, i'm a 30 yr old male pretty much active, but with this i can't be me, been going on for about ywo weeks, any thoughts?

Seem yesterday I have been feeling pain in my lower sternun area, it feels sometimes like i did sit ups and sometimes the skin area has a burning sensation, it wories me ... that's chest pain, I think. Most patients with costochondritis experience pain over the front of the upper chest (the area of the sternum). Because of serious conditions, most importantly conditions related to heart problems, costochondritis should only be diagnosed after excluding other more serious problems.

Chest wall problems - Pulled/strained muscles, inflammation of sternum-rib joints ... Pulled or strained muscles will often occur after straining (heavy lifting, etc.) or falls. The pain is often worse with deep breathing due to expansion of the chest wall. There may be tenderness over a particular area of the chest wall.
