I absolutely love Stocks and Pillories. But I have a bit of an obsession with them fitting tightly, and staying aligned. This design, for example, used those vertical pieces for alignment, and pivoted on a bolt instead of a sloppy hinge screwed into the end grain (always a weak fastening).
