Hi Karen a stretch and sweep is where the doc inserts his fingers and stretches the cervix and sweeps his fingers around your membranes to kick start labor. He doesn't actually break your water or anything, and he told me it is only 50% effective.

I am 40 weeks and 1 day with baby no.2. I am having a stretch and sweep this afternoon, I had one with my first daughter but it didn't work and had to be induced a week later. Has it worked for anyone else??

I had a stretch and sweep done 4 times and it really hurt. For some it is only uncomfy. But for me it hurt and it did no good. I still went over and had to be induced. But thats just me. I hope it works for you. Best of luck and Merry Christmas!
