With the success of "Lady", STYX signed a record deal with A & M Records and released their 5th album, EQUINOX. This was their first self-produced album. Less than a week before the start of their tour in support of EQUINOX, guitarist John Curulewski left the band which sent STYX scrambling for a new guitarist.

Styx becomes the first band in the history of rock and roll to have four consecutive triple-platinum albums! 1983: STYX releases the concept album, "Kilroy Was Here" and tours in support of it most of the year.

The band were still doing covers, but the CS&N numbers were an inspiration and Ken started writing his own songs, They were soon introduced to the show. Unfortunately the agent to which they were signed booked them into venues where the audience only really wanted pop chart covers.
