I went and saw the movie Superman Returns. For the first time in two and a half decades of avid film watching I felt transported back to childhood. Then the abominable happened. In the same way that Lex shanks Superman with a shard of Kryptonite, the writers of the film's story destroy our hero.

Superman is invincible, super fast, super strong, shoots lasers from his eyes, doesn’t need air, can make a blizzard with his breath, and is completely altruistic (a.k.a a complete good guy with no dark side). His only weakness is Kryptonite and sadness for not being able to save everyone all the time.
