Teeline is a shorthand system accepted by the NCTJ, an organisation for training journalists in the United Kingdom. It was developed in 1968 by James Hill, a teacher of Pitman Shorthand.

James Hill, an instructor of Pitman Shorthand, developed it in 1970. It is simpler than Pitman Shorthand, without the need to use both thick and thin lines, or diacritical marks. It is not phonetic, but instead is based on the standard alphabet, and so retains the inadequacies of that alphabet.
